Karat Labs was born inside 404 Studios, a product studio built on equal ownership and democratic decision-making. As 404 Studios took on more AI-adjacent work, we kept running into the same gaps: clients who needed real AI engineering, not prompt-wrapped demos.
We built Karat Labs to be the answer to that gap. A dedicated AI intelligence company that brings research-level rigour to commercial AI engineering. The name is deliberate: Karat measures the purity of gold. We intend to build AI systems worth that name.
To make AI systems that are reliable, understandable, and genuinely useful, by building with rigour from the first line of code.
A world where AI-powered products are held to the same standard as any other critical software, tested thoroughly, deployed responsibly, and built to last.

We build evaluation pipelines before we build products. Quality is defined before it is built.
